together by vision and ethics are working across the planet to create healthy, livable, dynamic and sustainable communities. FitCities strives to expose new standards of discipline, ethical practices, knowledge and vision that are creating and transforming the world's human settlements.

Conceived by Stephen A. Goldsmith, Salt Lake City Planning  Director, FitCities highlights design excellence and establishes an exclusive record of the world's city-building achievements.

FitCities was launched February 1, 2002 with an  exhibition and symposium at the Salt Lake City and County Building.  The exhibit showcased  state-of-the-art architecture, urban design and transportation projects from cities around the world.  The exhibition and symposium was presented in conjunction with the 2002 Cultural Olympiad, the Olympic Arts Festival surrounding the Olympic Winter Games and the  Paralympic Winter Games of 2002.
